THAT'S RUFF
Plus, the popular baby names right now
- Claudia Jackson, Fabulous digital writer

PICKING the perfect baby name isn't always easy, especially if you want to step outside of the box slightly, or have traditions to stick to.
But one mum-to-be found herself in a sticky situation after she discovered the name she loved for her baby sounded a lot like her pup's name.

The mum explained she'd already agreed on a baby name with her husband when they noticed their dog reacting to the name whenever they said it out loud.
Soon, they realised the pup actually thought they were saying its name, since they sound so similar.
The mum then took to Reddit to see if others thought she should pick a new name for her baby, and people had mixed feelings about it.
She titled the viral post 'our dog ruined the only name we could agree on’ and explained what happened.

“We’ve struggled to come up with names for our little boy but have both fallen in love with Vincent.
"The issue comes when we were excitedly talking about the name Vincent/Vinnie, ourdogWinston (Winnie) reacted, clearly thinking we were saying his name.”
Although the mum said neither she nor her husband blamed the dog, the situation left them both feeling "anxious" because her due date was right around the corner.
"Baby boy could come any day and we’re no closer to a name," she noted.

She asked fellow Reddit users if they thought she could make the name work, despite the dog; it was his name.
She even shared some other names including Caleb, Albie, Fletcher and Franklin but added she's “not as sold” as she is with Vincent.

One person suggested sticking with the name and just avoiding the similar-sounding nickname.
They said: "Name him Vincent and don’t call him Vinnie. Problem solved! If you want him to have a nickname, call him Vin or come up with something based off his last name or something.
"You might even come up with something once he’s born because of his appearance or his personality."
But others pointed out that the couple should stick with the name they really love, since the dog would likely not live much longer.
"They should go with Vincent if it's what they love, and if both come running at "innie", so be it," one said.

Another agreed: "Name your son Vincent. Winston will adjust; dogs are very intuitive and he will figure out when you are talking to him and when you are not.
"As much as we love our dogs, Winston will not carry his name for nearly as many years as little Vincent will carry his.
"If it really becomes necessary, you can change the dog's name. (Winston becomes Teddy Winston and then you gradually phase out the Winston. Now your doggie is named Teddy.)"

And someone else shared a similar story from their own family, they explained: "Name your human what you want. My sister had a dog named Sebastian and when they had their baby they couldn’t agree on any name they liked other thanSebastian.
"So they renamed the dog and gave their human baby the name they liked the most."
The struggle of choosing a baby name
CHLOE Morgan, a Senior Writer at Fabulous, has revealed her dilemma on choosing a baby name...
At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me in the past few months (minus the insomnia and countless night-time wee breaks!) has been trying to decide on a baby name.
The dilemmas are endless...
My partner and I went for a private scan to find out the gender as early as we could - partly due to the fact we thought it would make baby naming so much easier because we'd only have to come up with a list of names for one gender rather than two.
How wrong we were...
I was absolutely thrilled to be told I was expecting the baby girl I'd already dreamed of, but being one of the last of my friends to fall pregnant, I've had countless conversations over the years with excited pals discussing their top baby names...something which I wish I could go back in time and un-hear.
With each friend mentioning at least 10 possible monikers, I can't help but feel like several are now a no-go even though I know it's something that none of them would mind in the slightest - it's a total me problem!
The debate comes up time and time again on social media forums - can you choose the same name that was a "potential" for a friend's baby?
It's a very divisive topic and opinions are always mixed...and I don't want to be THAT person.
While some will argue there's thousands of other names out there to choose from, others will say you need to choose YOUR favourite...after all, there's no guarantee that person will even have another baby.
Then there's also the issue of finding a name you adore...only to research it online and read one negative comment amongst hundreds of positives that you just can't shake off.
I made that very mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won't reveal it because I don't want to ruin it for others!) ...only to see someone point out that it constantly gets autocorrected on a phone to something rather rude instead.
So, back to the drawing board we went..
Just five weeks to go and it looks like our little one is going to be known as 'baby gal' for a little while longer!
